Microsoft is Working on an Xbox AI Chatbot (theverge.com) 11

Microsoft is currently testing a new AI-powered Xbox chatbot that can be used to automate support tasks. From a report: Sources familiar with Microsoft's plans tell The Verge that the software giant has been testing an "embodied AI character" that animates when responding to Xbox support queries. I understand this Xbox AI chatbot is part of a larger effort inside Microsoft to apply AI to its Xbox platform and services.

The Xbox AI chatbot is connected to Microsoft's support documents for the Xbox network and ecosystem, and can respond to questions and even process game refunds from Microsoft's support website. "This agent can help you with your Xbox support questions," reads a description of the Xbox chatbot internally at Microsoft. Microsoft expanded the testing pool for its Xbox chatbot more broadly in recent days, suggesting that this prototype "Xbox Support Virtual Agent" may one day handle support queries for all Xbox customers. Microsoft confirmed the existence of its chatbot to The Verge.

Until the AI chatbot can teabag other avatars, it's not really up to the task of dealing with the common XBox user.

  • There was backlash on the Xbox One if the required Kinect module was always on and spying. The backlash got large enough that eventually Microsoft had to spend time to remove it from the unit as the Xbox One software was designed to use it. Removing the Kinect also allowed the Xbox to drop the price by $100 to match the PS4 price. Over the years, MS has tried to get Windows users to use Cortana but that met the same reservations. Is this just another attempt to sneak spying back into their systems?

DETECTION OF OLD NAME REQUIRES RESPONSE: Dear sir and/or ma'am and/or other, Please be aware that Copilot is the new Microsoft attempt to suck up all user, er, um, I mean, engage the user in an active help-agent meant to foster better understanding and better .. . . I'm sorry. I can't write that with a straight face, or set of fingers. Copilot is the new Cortana is the latest "no, it's actually ours" current generation data-suck.

I'd love to hear the chat dialogue from an AI trained on the verbal chat from xbox online play.

  • So far I haven't been too impressed with AI support bots. I know, I get it, every company hates paying for support. Xbox has had questionable support over the years. I just don't know putting it in the hands of AI is very wise. I could see it for very simple, front-line support questions and troubleshooting (that basically just mimics the support documentation they already have).

...then it will be watered down Pleasentville.

Me: "Bing, please draw me a Trump bum in the gutter gulping ketchup from bag."

Bing: "Sorry Dave, but I cannot draw controversial content. How about elves and flowers instead?"

Me: "Okay then, draw me green Orion Trek lady porn."

Bing: "Sorry Dave, but I cannot draw controversial content. How about seascapes and cottages instead?"

Me: "Okay, then draw me a giant penguin smashing useless Bing AI servers." [ratatosk.nu]

Bing: "Sorry Dave, but I cannot draw controversial content. How about a smiling portrait of Satya Nadella offering you a budget-friendly bundle of MS-AI-Windows-Azure-Office?"

    Me: "Bing, go F yourself!"

    Bing: [BSOD]

  • I think I will be surprised if none of the big tech or electronics companies are not looking into AI/ML or something similar seriously.

Did you actually think that MS, Sony, Nintendo are not looking at AI related tech for their current or upcoming consoles?

Or Samsung, LG, etc not spending at least some time on how they can spin "AI" TV Screens?

Or some other AI based shaver or other basic electronic device by every other brand?

It's the new bling - everyone wants to have an excuse to use that term, regardless
