Sony Settles Case With Lik Sang Over Mod Chips 11

An anonymous reader writes "Reuters reported that Lik Sang and Sony now settled the 'Mod Chip Lawsuit' out of Court. As part of the Sony settlement, Lik Sang signed what it called an acknowledgement and undertaking that included a one-time compensation to Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Lik Sang spokesman Alex Kampl said in a statement." Of course, part of the settlement involves Lik Sang no longer selling mod chips for any Sony product, so potential modders will need to look elsewhere. The court actions against Lik Sang by both Nintendo and Microsoft are still standing.

So now sony needs to sue the pencil companies, because I use a pencil to hold the little button down when I do the swap trick on my burned games. (Of course they are just archive copies of the games I already bought.)
  • Don't forget to sue gravity for reducing the effort of pushing the button
    • Well, gravity doesn't help pushing buttons that much...

They might, of course, sue earth because it allows you to build very stable buildings into which a very stable shelf can be placed to give support to the console when the button is pressed.

But that would be pointless because with no supporting surface, or gravity, the users could just hold the console themselves. Modders could push buttons with no trouble anyway.

      Or something. I need coffee.

  • If that suit settled with the "no more mod chips" caveat, the other two probably will as well. At least, the Nintendo one probably will. Microsoft doesn't seem to have a very good track record as far as "not getting one's ass beat down in court," so I wouldn't be too shocked if they somehow neglected to get their way even with the precedent.
  • Lik Sang can't sell PS1/2 mod chips anymore, correct? But can they still design and sell the manufacturing plans to other companies? Can they sell "PS1/2 Mod Chips for Dummies" books?
