New Mario Kart Double Dash Footage 21

StrikerObi writes "Planet GameCube has posted the first ever footage of Mario Kart Double Dash for the GameCube. It was recorded earlier off of the CNN Headline News television network. The game now has 2 characters riding on each kart, with one driving and the other using weapons. There is also some footage of the new F-Zero GX game in the reel." There's also a torrent file available from the fine folks at GameTab.

I just hope that they introduce something new that can be ripped off by like a million cart games :) Remeber after they released Super Mario Kart? That's right there were like a gazillion games using the same gameplay but Mario Kart will always be the best :)

Why was this marked 'Off-topic' when the topic's about Mario Kart?

Am I the only one that thinks this looks crappy?

I loved Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64. The only thing I didn't like was not being able to play as Yoshi if I wanted to actually WIN a race, because Bowser, Donkey Kong, and Wario were the fastest.

Now all the cars look really stupid and the screen is cluttered with twice as many characters and more icons than ever.

I don't mind racing as baby mario. But I do mind racing around a track at 60mph in a baby carraige which looks like it would have no traction and
    • If I remember correctly, you pair the characters up with whomever you want to. The whole point is you have a driver that has certain characteristics and a weapons character, that has certain characteristics. Remember in the first Mario Kart how the NPC version of Donkey Kong could drop banana peels etc? This is along the same lines.
    • While it is true that Bowser and Kong were the fastest on Super Mario Kart, they are most definatly not the fastest on MK64. Yoshi, Toad, and Peach are by far the fastest in that game. The big guys were fun because you could run into people and spin them out and what not, but it's hard to do consistantly. The light-weights are the ones with the best time trial times.

Both of you are kind of right (Note: I've played more MK64 than I should have).

Bowser, Wario, and DK have the fastest top end. The problem is that they take a long time to get up there.

Toad, Peach, and Yoshi have a slower top end, but they get up to it much much faster.

Discounting powerslides for the moment, the heavy guys also lost a decent bit of speed in the curves. This is where the light guys really shine. Powerslides equalize things somewhat. Usually in a race, the little guy will still come ou

Hell, even if they could, why would they want to?

You mean besides them wanting to watch the video?

      Couple of things to consider:

1.) The WMV8 codec isn't half bad. Maybe not as good as DivX, but it's still very much watchable.

2.) The WM Player may be a little on the 'blech' side, but arguably most players are. Real Media? Yuck. Quicktime? Yuck. DivX Playa? Yuck. Heck, just fi

There is a DivX format file on the same page (without the Zero-G footage). And DivX is available for ~all platforms.

2.) The WM Player may be a little on the 'blech' side, but arguably most players are. Real Media? Yuck. Quicktime? Yuck. DivX Playa? Yuck. Heck, just fire up MS's v6 Media Player. It's a great little player and it still plays WM9 formats if you have the codecs.

That's your opinion. The WM Player on the Mac (what I use) is terrible.

      • Take a look at Media Player Classic [gabest.org]. It's a great little player modelled after the great little MS Media Player v6. Launches fast, playlist, plays DVDs and video from a video capture card.
  • what I'm wondering is if you have 2 people per cart, can you still have competitive races with 4 people each on their own cart? That was one of the best parts of Mario Kart 64, just having a great time going up against your buds.

My buds and I have worn our N64 controllers to nubs playing Mario Kart. I was greatly dissapointed when Mario Kart wasn't a GCN release title. There's no finer waste of time than taking bong rips and destroying your friends with red turtle shells. I'm a little wary of the new element of two characters per kart, but knowing Nintendo's track record with great gameplay I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Once I have this and Mario Tennis in my GCN library I will finally be able toss out the ol'
  • This double character thing makes me think of how it will make it easier since you wouldn't have to balance out the good and bad points of each driver. I'm not sure if this change will be good, but change can be good and it may be different giving a new exciting game...
  • Anyone have a mirror for the DivX file? The one from their site will not download; gets about 60% and restarts..
