Harry Potter Game Gets PS2 EyeToy Bonus 15

Thanks to EuroGamer for its article discussing the fact that EA's PlayStation 2 version of Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban will be the first PS2 third-party game to take advantage of the EyeToy USB camera add-on. Among the EyeToy bonus mini-games created specifically for the PS2 version of the multi-format title: "'Chocolate Frogs' will see players clapping their hands together to catch a Chocolate Frog and no doubt send the resultant goo splashing everywhere... [and] 'Seeker Practice' will involve trying to grab the Golden Snitch whilst avoiding the Bludger." The article notes: "Although EA isn't planning an actual wand peripheral, an equally Potter-mad representative suggested we could always use our own makeshift example if we really wanted", and apart from EyeToy, the game, which IGN PS2 has a recent hands-on preview of, "will also accept voice input to help repel Peeves and perform other tasks."

Video and sound INPUT? why don't we just require every peripheral ever concieved?

on the other hand...i guess it's still cheaper than that mechwarrior controller (XBOX)
  • ...someone make full use of the dual shock! It's like after Ape Escape and Metal Gear Solid a few years ago there haven't any fresh ideas with it. Do some more force feedback tricks, use those analog buttons, c'mon developers at least use r3 and l3.

If I remember correctly, Activision-published "Tony Hawk's Underground" did it before, although to a lesser extent : it is possible to play not as Tony Hawk, but to play as you, with your own face mapped on the 3d model.

Your face is of course scanned by the EyeToy USB camera when attached, and I believe you have to show the software where your mouth is and where your eyes are, so it can map the picture and animate it properly.
    • Your face isn't scanned by the EyeToy. You have to take a picture of yourself with a digital camera and then e-mail that to Activision. They make a map for the game, and then you download it using the network adapter. THUG released before the EyeToy.

... someone puts out a ps2/eye-toy trojan that takes audio/video data and broadcasts it?

i'm not so sure i like the idea of tv sets having cameras, finally, even if its for 'entertainment'.
