Shadow of the Colossus Preview 22

Shadow of the Colossus, the spiritual sequel to the incomparable Ico, is being previewed on Gamespot this weekend. From the article: "Shadow of the Colossus' story features the same timeless fairy-tale quality as ICO, albeit with a more mature theme. The story here is essentially one of love. You're cast as a nameless hero on a quest to save a loved one, and your journey will take you to an ancient temple where you discover the power to save your love's spirit. However, in order to unlock this power, you must obtain the essence of 16 colossi, mountainous gargantuan beasts that roam the land. How can a man who's about the size of an ant next to these beasts do such a thing armed with only a sword and a bow and arrow? That's for you to find out."

I don't know, but it probably involves lots of skeleton keys and switches.
    • hahah Give that man the pet poodle ,you beat me to the punch with that one.
      I was going to say.

He could try a sling [google.co.uk].

Yeah, that works some of the time, but then whenever you go to the future by pulling out the Master Sword in the Temple of Time, you lose the ability to use the sling and must use a bow & arrow instead.
  • apologies for that Baldur's Gate flashback, couldn't hold it back.
  • so, 16 collosi... all bosses... nothing else. really, they look like they could be interestin boss fights, but where is the rest of the game, it seems like something might be missing, perhaps a plot. 8 to 10 hours of bosses with low color saturation does not a good game make.
    • There are games that consist only of boss fights (most famous is rRootage, AFAIK), where's the problem with that?
    • Bear in mind Gamespot was playing an early demo where they only got up to the first boss, so who knows what the rest of the game will be like? Also, if I'm not mistaken, they did mention that there was a bit of travelling involved in getting to the first boss, so it won't be just boss fight after boss fight. At least I hope not :-)
    • Eh ehm, tell me if you've heard THIS before - "Running around a castle with some damsel in distress for 6 hours does not a good game make."
    • You're looking at it the wrong way. These are not boss fights like anything you have seen before. the bosses are both enemy and enviroment. they are of such large scall that getting around them (and other environmentals) to find their weak points are the puzzels and the rest of the game. this is not some hack and slash game. Like ICO before it you are not so much worried about being killed by the monsters as you are trying to figure them out and how to destroy them. If you look closely at some of the
  • I never tried ICO. Alot of gamers said ICO for PS1 had the greatest video game ending of ALL TIME. Just for that I might keep an eye on this Colosus title.
