The Behemoth Stirs 19

Game Informer has an interview with the folks at The Behemoth, makers of the incredible flash-game-to-console-hit title Alien Hominid. They're currently planning out their next project, which is as yet unnamed. From the article: "There's going to be a lot of homage's and tributes in here. But essentially, we're only allowed to say what you see right now with this new game. The idea is to save the princess, and every character has a different magical affinity. It's kind of like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with their weapons, sort of. One guy is ice, one guy is fire, one guy is lightning, and one guy is poison. You can shoot your sword, and then have the ability to do archery and magic. We're going to have it so the more you do something specific, the more you'll level that up - more powerful attacks and more powerful combos."

There is a link to the flash game.

And from personal experience, the musician behind the flash music is, and always will be, an asshole.

    Fatal error encountered, aborting reading!

Line 2: fatal basic grammar error (unauthorized possessive apostrophe).

There's going to be a lot of homage's and tributes in here.
A solution is available for your error: go back to school.

It's a good thing they stopped at 4 people. One more and you get Captain Planet.
  • Who thought Alien Hominid, at least the Flash version, wasn't actually all that great? The graphics are somewhat interesting and the plot gimmick is fun, but come on: if I want a side-scrolling shooter where the odds are stacked so desperately against me that level 2 is more a matter of divine intervention than skill then I'll just go play Metal Slug.

What's the deal /.'ers? Did I just not play long enough to get into it?
    • I've got the cube version, and it's actually a lot of fun. It reminds me a lot of Contra, actually, what with the bloody difficulty level and all. I know what you mean about level 2 ;) I did find that the cube version was a tad easier than the online flash version, if that's any consolation.
    • I rented the GC version and really really wanted to like it. I'm a fan of the old-school side-scrollers like Contra and Gunstar Heroes, so I figured this would be right up my alley.

An hour or so in, I felt my interest dropping. I liked the art style, and the gameplay was fine, but the two didn't work well together. It was really hard to dodge bullets that would get obscured by hand-drawn explosion sprites. The "PDA" minigames were cute, but again, largely didn't really pull me in.

      Again, I really wante
  • What a coincidence that this interview is Slashdotted today... Some of the top guys from Behemoth will be on the ChatterBox Video Game Radio show on Sunday, July 31st. Since it's a live show, anyone can call in and talk to the guests themselves. So, if you're interested, visit http://www.chatterboxgameshow.com/ [chatterboxgameshow.com] for all the info on how to listen (it's broadcast live in Phoenix, AZ, streamed live on the net, and podCast) and call in.
