Guitar Hero Lawsuit Settled 25

1up is reporting that Red Octane and Ant Commandos have settled their lawsuits over 3rd party Guitar Hero controllers. From the article: "Fortunately both sides have now officially reached an agreement - though nobody really knows what form that agreement has taken. Details of the settlement remain private - but we DO know this much: The judge has officially dismissed the case. That's good news for people just wanting to rock the hell out over the holidays."

Guitar Hero Lawsuit Settled

  • Given they settled a lawsuit from Konami over DDR pad packaging and In The Groove two months ago, you think they would be hesitant to start taking shots at others.

    Guess not.

    • ...is that Red Octane sent cease and desist letters to DDR:UK for providing Stepmania file downloads for ITG songs; when ITG only exists because of piracy of DDR songs and stepfiles.

Suing TAC for copying their controller is par for the course. I guess from Red Octane's point of view it's OK for them to copy other people's products, but it's not OK for people to copy theirs.

The In The Groove court case was more targeted towards Roxor Games, the maker of the game rather than Red Octane, the distributer.

For some reason this made me laugh. A good rock'n'roll quote (merry christmas):

So you mean there was a shortage of guitars before the lawsuit?
    • That's vaguely guitar-shaped controllers. No matter which one you buy, you're still just a jackass playing with a toy guitar [highlights.com].

But you posted to a toy guitar with four fret buttons! Guitar Hero guitars have *five* fret buttons, clearly defining the game as entertainment for the mature, sophisticated and worldly gamer!

As a side note, my brother's friend, when he heard about the concept of Guitar Hero his only comment was "hell no!". Then he saw the guitar controllers he said "oh HELL no!". He even tried it for two minutes and gave up on it ("stupid"). He eventually tried it again, got hooked, and now asks if he can "hang" out wh

Or for those tots with six digits on their left hand.
  • I was worried that my wireless guitar would be seized if they lost ;-)
  • Does anyone know if Guitar Hero can be played on a PS3?

I assume a PS2 controller to USB adapter would allow the guitar to be plugged in, but has anyone actually got it to work?

    • Given that Guitar Hero is already at PS3-level prices, I would damn well hope so.

Last I checked the GH Controller is not compatible with with PS3 even with the USB adapter. has something to do with having to press some special button at start up (for PS1 and PS2 games), that the GH controller does not have. You can rad about it on ign. [ign.com] I haven't yet found anyone listing a hack for this yet, but I am sure there will be one soon enough.

"The injunction also asks the court to allow for fair competition in the market by enjoining the sale of the game/controller "bundle" so that consumers no longer have to purchase both Guitar Hero and the RedOctane controller, but rather may purchase the game and have their choice on which controller to buy. " "TAC will continue to make and improve on innovative peripherals to provide gamers with a choice. I strongly believe consumers should have their own choice, especially when it comes to choosing a bett
  • I can make my own GH controller now? I was thinking about buying a GH controller and a cheap guitar (something with some actual weight to it) and making my own controller that way. Has anyone else tried this?
