Microsoft's Xbox Copilot Will Act As an AI Gaming Coach (theverge.com) 23
Microsoft is preparing to launch an AI-powered Copilot for Gaming soon that will guide Xbox players through games and act as an assistant to download and launch games. From a report: Copilot for Gaming, as Microsoft is branding it, will be available through the Xbox mobile app initially and is designed to work on a second screen as a companion or assistant.
Microsoft is positioning Copilot for Gaming as a sidekick of sorts, one that will accompany you through games, offering up tips and guides and useful information about a game world. During a press briefing, Sonali Yadav, product manager for gaming AI, demonstrated several scenarios for what Copilot for Gaming could be used for. One involved a concept demo of Copilot assisting an Overwatch 2 player by coaching them on the mistakes they made when trying to push without teammates.

I think it would be interesting to have an AI "buddy" that could play co-op games and chat with me about the game, and also about philosophy and other random nonsense, while playing. Just like a real person would.
But, as novel as I think that would be, I would never trust it. I would know that it was put up by a rich corporation who is motivated to use it to convince me to spend more money, and to extract data about me which it could sell to other advertisers. There is simply no way to ever escape that.

Sometimes an artistic and gameplay choice is made to leave those first hours a bit directionless and vague and let the player sort out the rules of the world through their own actions. Absolutely. The very successful Dark Souls games come to mind in regards to this.
Of course this is exactly why I don't play the Dark Souls games so maybe leaving it as an option to turn on for the player would be nice even when this type of thing is part of game play. I would imagine there's more to a Dark Souls type games than figuring out the controls.

I was going to mention Elden Ring as an example since that's the only Souls game I have played front to back and it was considered a plus by just about everyone that while the game didn't handhold you very much at all and you could get merc-ed pretty much within 3 minutes of starting a game. At least not without some sort of AI guide in the first couple hours as I've mentioned.
